Chola Pass EBC Kalapathar Trekking is a unique trek that starts at Lukla and continue along Namche Bazaar to Gokyo, Chola pass, Kala Patthar and finally the Everest base camp. Home of the Sherpa people, this trek is the best way to ascertain the beauty of the Everest region and the unique culture of the Sherpa people, akin to the region. The trek allows you to pass through Dudh Koshi and Gokyo Lake that lies west of Everest. You might as well summit the Gokyo Peak that is well known for the views of Cho Oyu, Makalu and Everest that it offers.
You will need to cross the Cho-La Pass before finally returning back to Lukla. The Chola Pass EBC Kala Patthar trek is also significant from a cultural viewpoint. On the way, you will visit the Tengboche Monastery on your way down from Kalapatthar, the Khumjung village inhabited purely by Sherpa people, Namche Bazaar and Lukla. This trek is best for those who aren’t prepared for an expedition but still want to discover the beauty of the Everest region, unique culture of the Sherpa people and Buddhist monasteries located at some of the highest points of the world.
Chola Pass EBC Kalapathar Trekking - Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, Yuuki Trek’s representative will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. At the hotel you will be briefed about trekking Details.
Day 2: Kathmandu to Lukla (2840m) by flight (30 minutes), trek to Phakding (2610m) (3 to 4 hours)
Early morning, we take our flight to lukla. After 40 minutes flight above the beautiful green hills and mountains, we reach Tenzing-Hillary Airport in lukla. lukla is famous tourist destination since it is the gateway of Mount Everest base camp.Upon the arrival in lukla, we take breakfast before starting our trekking. Our trek starts from beautiful lukla through villages such as Chhiplung (2700m.) and Mushe (2650m.). On the way, one can observe beautiful view of beautiful green hills. Overnight in Phakding.
Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3480m).
After breakfast, we will continue our trek through pine forest. The trail continues along right bank of Dudh Koshi River. There, we get see the first glimpse of Mt. Thamserku (6618 m). We continue the trail with many ups and downs through Bengar and Chumoa before crossing a stream to reach Monjo village. There is a small suspension bridge which is also the entrance gate of the Sagarmatha National Park where we have to deposit a park entrance fee. Our trail continues through Jorsale village, the last village till Namche Bazaar. From there, trek continues until we reach confluence of the Dudh Koshi to the right and Bhote Koshi to the left. From there, we continue our trek to Namche Bazaar. On the way, one can enjoy the magnificent views of Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8516m.).
Day 04: Namche Bazaar acclimatization day
After we reach our destination Namche bazaar, we take rest for a day. Namche bazaar is the gateway to the high Himalayas. Namche is the administrative center of the Khumbu region so there are police check post, A bank, government offices, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants and bakeries.One can view magnificent view of mt Kongde Ri(6,187 m) to west of Namche and mt Thamserku (6,608m) to the east. Shyangboche Airstrip (3,750m) is situated in a hill over Namche Bazaar. We can hike to Everest view hotel for superb views of Mt. Everest( 8848m) , Mt.Lhotse, (8516n) Mt. Nuptse, (7855m), Mt.Amadablam (6856m), Mt. Thamserku ( 6723m) , Mt. Kantega (6979m), Mt. Kusum Khangaru ( 6367m) , Mt.Kongde (6011m), Mt. Tawache peak ( 6367 m) , Mt. Cholaste (6335m) ,island peak (6179m), Khumbila (God of Khumbu) 5761m etc and other magnificent peaks and visit the museum.
Day 05: Namche Bazaar trek to Khumjung (3840m)
Early morning, we continue our trek to Khumjung through uphill way of an hour to Syangboche. From there, the trail descends to Khumjung. We can enjoy the magnificent views of mt Ama Dablam (6812m), Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse (7855m) and Tawoche (6501m). From there, we trek down to Khumjung. Upon the arrival in Khumjung, we take lunch and explore the Khumjung village and Khumjung monastery which has yeti scalp. Khumjung is surrounded by Khunde and Thamserku and the sacred peak Khumbila. We can also hike up to Khunde village which is situated at 3840m higher than Khumjung . Khumjung and Khunde are similar types of villages. In Khunde, there is Khunde hospital which is responsible for the entire khumbu region. Overnight in khumjung.
Day 06: Khumjung trek to Dole (4000m)
On this trail, we have to walk through ups and downs and our trail starts with the uphill way to Chorten on the top of the ridge. This ridge descends from Khumbila. The trail slightly descends towards the Sansa and again the trail takes uphill way to Mongla. On the trail, One can enjoy the magnificent views of Mt Khumila and Mt Tawachee(6542m). From Mongla, the trail descends through the sandy slope to Dudhkoshi. We reach Phortse Tenga after crossing the bridge. After taking lunch, the trail ascends to Dole through the rhododendron forest. Overnight in Dole.
Day 07: Dole trek to Machhermo(4400m)
Today will be the short trip from Dole to Machhermo as our trail continues ascending through the thorny bushes to Lhabarma. The trail continues to climb along the side of the valley through the summer settlements, where yaks are taken to graze in the summer. You can enjoy the views of mt Cho Oyu, Kantega and Thamserku on the way to Machhermo. There are few hotels in Machhermo. Overnight in Machhermo.
Day 08: Machhermo trek to Gokyo Lake (4750m)
Early morning, the trek starts climbing through a Chorten from where we can see the beautiful views of Mt Kangtenga,Thamserku,Cho oyu on the way to Phanka .From Phanka, we descend to one of the melt-water Rivers which flow down the west side of the Ngozamba Glacier before we start climbing terminal moraine of Ngozamba glacier. After crossing the moraine, the trail continues as we pass the first one of Holy lakes. Soon we pass second lake and walking further, we reach the third lake known as Dudh Pokhari.Gokyo village is situated alongside the third lake. After taking lunch, excursion around the Gokyo valley. Overnight in Gokyo.
Day 09: Gokyo to Gokyo ri[5340m] & Trek back to Thangnak[4650m].
Early morning, we Hike up to the top of Gokyo Ri [5340m]. It is one of the best view point of Everest Region. From Gokyo Ri, breathtaking view of the whole Khumbu Himalaya range can be observed which includes View of Cho you (8,153m), Gyachung Kang (7,922m), Everest (8848m), and Lhotse (8,501m) along with peaks of Cholatse and Tawach on south.One can also enjoy the View of the Ngozumpa glacier, the biggest glacier of Nepal. After Lunch; we continue our trek to Thangnak, situated at edge of the Ngozumpa Glacier. Overnight in Thangnak.
Day 10: Thangnak –Chola pass- Dzongla (4800m).
Early morning, we start the trek ascending slightly along the valley towards Chola pass. The pass is steep and covered with rocks glazed by snow so the trail is difficult. On the trail, one can enjoy the magnificent views of mt Ama Dablam,mtCholatse, Mt Lobuche and mt Baruntse .As the trail continues, we descend steeply down for an hour in the last section of this trail to reach Dzongla ,village with breathtaking views of Mt Lobuche , Mt Ama Dablam and Mt Cholatse
Day 11: Dzongla trek to Lobuche (4910m)
Early morning, the trek starts to Lobuche as we walk the downhill way to Lobuche .After descending way, the trail continues to Lobuche alongside th Lobuche river with the view of mt Ama Dablam,Taboche and many other mountains.we reach Lobuche after leaving the wide river bed. Overnight in Lobuche.
Day 12: Lobuche trek to Gorakshep (5180m),
After breakfast, our trek to Everest Base camp continues through Gorakshep. On the way, one can enjoy the closer view of Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Mahalangur, Mt. Lingtern, Mt. Khumbutse, Mt. Nuptse etc .our trail progress through Khumbu glacier to Gorakshep. Upon the arrival in Gorakshep, we take rest for lunch then our trail continues to Everest Base Camp. Beautiful view of mt Khumbuste and mt Pumori can be observed from Everest Base camp. After visiting Everest Base camp, we trek back to Gorakshep. Overnight at Gorakshep.
Day 13: Gorakshep to Dingboche (4910m)
Early morning, we hike up to Kalapathar for breathtaking sunrise view. It will take about 2 hours to reach view point from Gorakshep. Magnificent views of Mt. Everest, Mt Nuptse, mt Pumori and mt Ama Dablam can be seen along with the entire Views of Khumbu Himalayan range from Kala pathar. After the sunrise view, we hike down to Gorakshep for breakfast. After having breakfast; our trek starts downhill back to Dingboche through the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier and Lobuche. Overnight at Dingboche.
Day 14: Dingboche trek to Tengboche (3890m)
After Breakfast, our trail continues towards TengBoche descending to the confluence of the Lobuche River. After walking in normal trail from Lobuche River, We left Imjatse valley Crossing Imja Khola .Passing many Chortens and Mani; we reach Pangboche for lunch. From here, trail continues until we wall uphill way about an hour to reach Tengboche. In Tengboche, one can enjoy the Beautiful sunrise view along with the stunning view of the mountains Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Tengboche Monastery, which is the largest monastery in the Khumbu region, is in Tengboche. Overnight in Tengboche.
Day 15: Tengboche trek to Namche Bazaar
Early morning, Descending through the pine forest brings you to Phunki Thenga, a small village with tea houses. From there, we cross prayer Flags Bridge over the Dudh Koshi River on the way to Sansa. The trail takes uphill way to Kayangjuma and walking through the ups and down from Kayangjuma brings you to Namche bazzar. . Namche is the administrative center of the Khumbu region so there are police check post, a bank, government offices, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants and bakeries. One can view magnificent view of mt Kongde Ri(6,187 m) to west of Namche and mt Thamserku (6,608m) to the east. Overnight in Namche Bazzar.
Day 16: Namche Bazaar trek to Lukla
Early morning, our trek continues downhill back to Lukla through the same trail. The trail continues through the confluence of Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi to Sagarmatha National Park exit before reaching Monjo village. From there, trail is mostly flat until we reach phakding. From there, our trek to Lukla continues crossing village of Ghat. On the way; one can enjoy beautiful views of green hills and mountains. After our arrival in Lukla, we will take rest and then visit the village. Overnight in lukla.
Day 17: Lukla to Kathmandu by flight
Early morning, we fly back to Kathmandu. After we arrive in Kathmandu, Yuuki’s representatives will escort you to hotel. Rest and relax for the remaining day.
Day 18: Sightseeing in Kathmandu
After breakfast, our tour guide will take to for historical monuments sightseing in kathmandu valley such as Bhaktapur, Pasupatinath, Boudhhanath, Kathmandu durbar square and Monkey temple (Swyambhunath) and in the evening farewell dinner in Restaurant, overnight at Kathmandu in Hotel.
Day 19: Final Departure from Kathmandu
Yuuki’s representatives will transfer to international airport for your final departure.
