Dolpo despite being remote is laden with natural beauty. The Shey Phoksundo National Park is the key aspect of the Dolpo region. To the east and south of Dolpo lie the Dhaulagiri and Churen Himal ranges and to its west lies Humla, a remote district of Nepal.
The milky white peaks covered in snow, the ancient and isolated villages, diverse wildlife, Buddhist monasteries and beautiful mountain lakes would tantalize anyone to visit the place. The people of the Dolpo region follow their unique set of cultural beliefs. They are basically warm hearted people whose traditions resemble that of the Tibetans.
Trekking in Dolpo region is an enthralling experience and the landscape of this region clearly demarcates it from the others. The isolated villages of the Himalayan region, the highlands and the Shey Phoksundo lake are some of its greatest attractions. The Shey Phoksundo Lake is completely free of aquatic habitat as explained by the crystal water. This trek is also sometimes referred to as the Dolpo Crystal trek as signified by it. The Shey Phoksundo Lake has been rightfully attributed as one of the world’s “Natural Hidden Wonder” of the world because of its mystical beauty.
Starting at Juphal, the trek follows through to Dunai. From Dunai, it continues past Tarakot and before reaching Bang La camp. The Bang La camp is the highest point of the Dolpo Trek. From there, the trek continues to the Sanu Bheri village before descending to the Phoksundo lake which is a part of the Shey Phoksundo National Park.
